The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has worked closely with the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools since 1994 to provide Community Schools programs at City community centers. This arrangement has several advantages. The Community Schools program allows local youth to return to school in a less restrictive environment. The youth are generally from the local neighborhood and their use of the facility through the Community Schools program have resulted in a reduction in graffiti and vandalism. The schools utilize classroom space at the centers in off-peak hours so there is no imposition on the general public. Improvements have been made to the centers by the schools. This agreement formalizes the arrangements between the City and San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools. This will allow for the continuation of the existing programs now located at five community centers.
