Description) Finance: Council Notes: &;/:1-/97 Agenda Item No. / (p CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Anthony's Churches are sponsoring a Eucharistic Procession, "A Procession for Peace, " on June 14, 1997. The procession, which is estimated to take two hours, will begin at St. Anthony's Church on 16th Street and culminate at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church off of Spruce Street. Attached is a copy of a letter from the applicants requesting a waiver of fees. The fees associated with the event for which a waiver is being requested are as follows: Public Works Labor and non-refundable equipment costs $ 570.00 Refundable deposit - 230 barricades @ $5.00 each 1.150.00 Sub total $1,720.00 Police Department Labor and equipment costs 1,950.00 Total $3,610.00 Due to current budget restraints, the Mayor denied the request for waiver of fees. Tom Minor Mayor, City of San Bernardino 300 North D Street San Bernardino, CA 92401 Dear Mayor: On June 14th, 1997, Our Lady of Guadalupe and Sl Anthony's Church are sponsoring a Eucharistic Procession, "A Procession for Peace." Our procession will travel from St. Anthony's church on 16th Street to Mt. Vernon, South to Spruce Street, West to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. We anticipate having approximately 1,000 people participating. This effort is set with the hope of bringing the attention to our Community a procession for peace. We are requesting the assistance of the City in the waiver of permit fees and costs for police services for that day. The anticipated time from start to finish Is about two hours. Our church committees are handling the recruitment of volunteers to assist with the monitoring of the people In the procession. We would very much appreciate anything you can do to assist us in this very worthwhile effort. Please advise us on how we should proceed. Thank you very much. We will wait to hear from your office.
