STAFF REPORT
The Gents Organization has scheduled a Slow Pitch Softball Tournament for June 7, 1997
at the Encanto East and West, and Nunez North ball fields.
Attached is a letter from the applicant requesting a waiver of fees. The fees associated
with the event for which a waiver is being requested are as follows:

The applicant further states in the letter that the organization will be paying the $75.00
fee for preparation of the three ballfields, and the $60.00 fee for the electrical energy to
power the ballfield lights at Encanto fields.
Pursuant to Resolution No. 96-152, the Mayor or his designee may exempt non-profit
corporations and associations organized primarily for patriotic, civic betterment or
charitable purposes from the rates and fee schedules for use of parks and recreation
facilities, services and equipment under the condition that paying the fees would create
a financial hardship jeopardizing the activity and if the event is of unusual benefit to the
citizens of San Bernardino and should be supported by public funds.
Due to current budget restraints, the Mayor denied the request for waiver of fees. The
Gents Organization has requested that this request be placed on the Council Agenda for
action.

The Gents organization slow pitch softball tournament
will be held this year on, June 7th, at Encanto and Nunez
park ball fields, in San Bernardino.
Proceeds from this tournament will go to our Scholarship
fund, to benefit the Inland Empire area high school students.
Our organization is seeking a waiver of fees(donation) on
only the use of the ball fields and concession stand at
Encanto field. We will pay for the maintenance of fields at
$25 dollars per field(3 fields)and for the use of electricity
(ball field lights)at Encanto fields, which I believe will
cost $11 per hour, and we will be using the lights for 3 hours
per field, for a grand total of $141 dollars.
