The new position will provide medical oversight and become involved in administrative decisions that affect patient care. RECOMMENDATION Mayor and Common Council authorize the Purchasing Manager to award contract to Dr. Eugene Kwong as the Medical Director for the San Bernardino City Fire Department. FINDINGS The City Administrator instructed the Purchasing Manager to prepare a Request for Qualifications fo~ a..part-time Medical Director. The city received two bids from qualified physicians currently working in local emergency departments. Criteria was established by the fire department to aid in selection process. A panel unanimously selected Dr. Kwong as the most qualified applicant. After an interview with Dr. Kwong, the fire department is confident that the selection of this applicant will produce the desired results of improved patient care and continuous improvement in customer service. L~ ~ from: subject: date: This office has reviewed the proposed contract with Dr. Kwong and requests that a clause be included whereby the City is named as an additional insured on Dr. Kwong's medical malpractice insurance policy for the same limits as such policy. Once this clause is added to the contract, Mr. Penman can approve the Resolution and the attached contract. For example: While not restricting or limiting the foregoing, during the term of this Agreement, contractor shall maintain in effect a policy of medical malpractice insurance in the amount of [amount of policy] combined single limit, and shall file copies of said policy with the CITY's Risk Manager prior to undertaking any work under this Agreement. Said medical malpractice insurance policy required hereunder shall name the City as an additional insured.
