STAFF REPORT
It is requested that the Mayor and Common Council approve the
procurement of four (4) 1/2 Ton Mini Pick-Up Trucks for the Public
Works Department, Inspection Section. The Vehicle Replacement Fund
provides for the replacement of the four (4) trucks utilized by
field inspectors in order to monitor construction projects.
Maintenance costs for units 0259, 0261 and 0263 has increased
during the last year ranging from $.27 to $1.06 per mile resulting
in an economic burden to maintain. unit 0251 has extensive engine
problems and requires a major overhaul ($2,000). The vehicles
scheduled for replacement are listed below:

Notices inviting bids for four (4) 1997 1/2 Ton Mini Pick-Up
Trucks, Bid No. F-97-09-C, were sent to 23 vendors; eight (8) bids
were received and opened on December 3, 1996. The results are as
follows:

The cost and technical specifications of all bids were reviewed.
The low bid of Crest Chevrolet was found to be acceptable and met
or exceeded all items called for in the specification.
It is recommended that the Mayor and Common Council authorize the
Purchasing Manager to issue a purchase order for the amount of
$57,808.01 to Crest Chevrolet to purchase four (4) 1997 Chevrolet
1/2 Ton Mini pick-Ups.
