STAFF REPORT
NAMING OF NEW PARK IN HONOR OF FREDDIE SPELLACY
Freddie Spellacy has been a long-time business owner in the City of San
Bernardino and is the founder of the Neighborhood Cluster Association. She has
served the San Bernardino community, with distinction, for many years and has
consistently supported various projects, measures, and organizations that have
helped to improve the City and the lives of its citizens.
It is recommended that the new park, located in the University Park Homes
Project, next to Ash Street, be named in honor of Freddie Spellacy.

I'm delighted to support the naming of a City of San Bernardino park in honor of Mrs.
Freddie SpeIJacy. As owner of the real estate company, Spellacy and Associates, she's
served the community with distinction for so many years, having consistently supported
various projects, measures, and organizations that have helped to improve the City and
the lives of its citizens.

She is the consummate real estate agent, fuIJy dedicated to her clients, staff, andmembers
of the community, many of whom own homes, thanks to Freddie's long-standing
commitment to home ownership 'for County residents. In fact, Freddie's name is
synonymous with integrity, dedication, professionalism, and leadership, not to mention
unsurpassed service as a real estate agent and local activist.
In short, given Freddie's significant contributions to the City, including her
groundbreaking work as founder of the Neighborhood Association and remarkable
commitment to improving the community through active invo!vemelll, she's remarkably
deserving of such recognition. Having a city park named after Freddie would be a most
fining tribute to a truly wonderful citizen whose exceptional service certainly deserves
applause-and serves as a model for us all.

I do not know how long Freddy has been actively recruiting leaders in the difrerent parts of the city, but
I do kn",,' that the Neighborhood Association, as it is currendy kno....n, bas been in cDstence at least 1m
years. I first met Freddy when she was going door to door in the neighborhood tallcing up the need for
organized citizen groups. ] remember being impressed with her sense of commitment, so one of the first
communi!}' leaden I worlo:ed ,,'ith in 1998 was Freddy. We organized the major city wide clean ups. And
guess who the first one to show up ",.;th gloves and brooms in hand was? Yes, it was Freddy, ever ready
Freddyl She continues to host the meetings at ber place of business and is always eager to assist and to
encourage othen to get inmlved in thm city.
San Bernardino has many assets, the greatest one being the people who love this town and go beyond the
norm in sh""'ing it and in gn'ing of themselves., I ~eve it is timely and fitting to recognize one of them.
