CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT REQUEST FOR WAIVER OF FEES IN THE AMOUNT OF $ 225 FOR USE OF SAL SAAVEDRA FIELD BY GUADALUPE YOUTH LEAGUE. The Guadalupe Youth League has requested a waiver of the fees in the amount of $ 225 for use of Sal Saavedra Field for their fund-raising softball game. The league is a non-profit organization which has been serving youth and families in our community for many years. As provided in the Fee Schedule, the Mayor may exempt non-profit organizations that provide beneficial services to the community from paying fees if such payment would create a hardship and if the event is of unusual benefit to the citizens of the City of San Bernardino. This event is to raise funds for the continued operation of the league program. Therefore, they do meet the qualifications for a fee waiver of department facilities. Due to current budget restraints, the Mayor recommended that the request for waiver of fees be denied. Guadalupe Youth League has requested that this item be placed on the Council Agenda to appeal the denial. 7/31/97 amt "'~""" . . , Guadalupe Youth League Pony Baseball To the San Bernardino City Council: Tax I.D. #25-099080 We the board members which include managers, coaches and parents of Guadalupe Youth League are purposing to you the council, the waiving of the following fee offield use for $225.00. Winter baseball is soon to begin. At the present time the league is in great need of financial assistance in order to provide the best possible season. AIl other fund raising efforts at Guadalupe Youth League have not been sucessful. This year has been special since we have added a new 13 & 14 year olds to our league again. It has been 15 years since this age group participated in our program. We would like to remind the boad of our objectives in providing a safe haven for our youth. We would all agree that our youth are experiencing many obstacles. Many of the social ills that are present in the surrounding community leaves no other choice for our youth other than drugs and gangs. So they stray from organized sports. It is our intention to occupy their time with baseball. This is why we are asking for your assistance. AIl of our fund raising will accomplish two very important objectives. First, it will assist the league financially. Secondly, and equally as important, the involvement and unity of our community will be evident. Our league can not function without the help ofthe surrounding community. The fund raising will be done through adult softball tournaments which will take place throughout the season. All monies raised will go directly towards equipment for the youth, field maintenance and recognition awards. We would like to thank you for your time and appreciate any help that you might be able to provide us with.
