Background: The City of San Bernardino has approximately 630 road miles and approximately 1,135 curb miles. These road and curb miles produce approximately 3,000 tons per fiscal year of debris. The Public Services Department, Street Sweeping Section operates three street sweeping vehicles. This allows the City's operation to sweep the City's residential, industrial and commercial areas once a month. The Public Services Department uses the County of San Bernardino's landfills for street sweeper dumpsites. The Public Services Department, Refuse Division currently has a purchase order with the San Bernardino County Waste System Division in the amount of $24,900.00. The purchase order has a remaining balance of $282.38 for fiscal year 06/07. Staff estimates we will collect approximately 1,900 tons of street sweeper debris for the remainder of the fiscal year. The Public Services Department utilizes the County of San Bernardino's Solid Waste dump at a cost of $34.69 per ton. The Public Services Department needs to increase the San Bernardino County Waste System Division Purchase Order 207326 by $65,000.00 to continue the use of the County of San Bernardino Solid Waste dump. Financial Impact: Funds for the increase are available in the Public Services Department, Refuse Division budget account number 527-414-5179.
