However, since the construction of that portion ofroadway has not yet taken place, the anticipated change over to Norm Johnson Way has not actually been implemented. Therefore, the section of street south of Highland A venue to 5th Street is still known as State Street within the City of San Bernardino. As you are aware, Norm Johnson was a lifelong resident of the City and was the owner of Fourth Street Rock Crusher. He passed away in September of2001. It is proposed that the park in the Verdemont area informally known as Chancellor's Park be named Norm Johnson Memorial Park in honor of the late Norm Johnson. The family of Mr. Johnson has been consulted during this process and is pleased to have the park named after their father / grandfather. As Interstate 210 nears completion, we are acutely aware that, as currently named, the throughway has three names within the city limits - State Street, Norm Johnson Way and University Parkway. It is not practical for visitors to our City, students trying to get to California State University San Bernardino, or residents who traverse our City to try and navigate a street, with multiple names. In order to facilitate navigation and reliable directional assistance, the City is proposing to modify the name of this segment of the throughway to make it consistent with the existing segments. If authorization to proceed is given, affected property owners and various City departments will be contacted for comments or conflicts, the results of which will be presented in summary at the public hearing. At that meeting, and after the public hearing, a resolution rescinding Resolution No. 2003-193, authorizing the street name change and the naming of the Norm Johnson Memorial Park will be presented for your consideration. Financial Impact: The $500 processing fee will not be collected, since this is a City initiated proposal. Recommendation: That the Director of Development Services be authorized to proceed with the street name change from State Street to University Parkway, south of Highland Avenue to 5th Street, and that a public hearing to consider the matter be set for August 21, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. e ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ '~.9 Cj ~.::::s '"> ~.:;: ~ ~~~ ~ ~ ~~ tJ ~ U." ~ ~ a~~ ~ ~ s::~ ~ ~ .~ \..J ~ ~ ~.~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~::::) E ~ ~ a ~ ~ ~ N M~~ ~ ~ V'::) L s::~ ~ ~Q S ~~ ~~~ ~....
