Subject: Authorization to hire a Temporary Legal
Assistant for the period October I, 2003 through
December 31, 2003, with no benefits, at $9 per hour, for
the purpose of providing support staff coverage during
the absence of the Executive Secretary due to work-

Synopsis of Previous Council Action:
None.
Recommended motion:
MOTION A: That the Mayor and Common Council authorize the City Attorney to hire
a temporary Legal Assistant for the period October I, 2003 through
December 31, 2003, with no benefits, at $9 per hour, for the purpose of
providing support staff coverage during the absence of the Executive
Secretary due to work-related medical leave.
MOTION B: Authorize the establishment of one (I) position of Temporary Legal
Assistant), Range Temp., $9.00/hour.
MOTION C: Direct the Human Resources Department to update Resolution 6413,
Section 13, to reflect this action.

Authorization to hire a Temporary Legal Assistant for the period October 1,
2003 through December 31, 2003, with no benefits, at $9 per hour, for the
purpose of providing support staff coverage during the absence of the
Executive Secretary due to work-related medical leave.
It is proposed that the City Attorney be authorized to hire a City Attorney Legal Assistant
(Temporary) for the period of October 1,2003 to December 31, 2003, with no benefits, at $9.00
per hour, for the purpose of providing support staff coverage during the absence of the Executive
Secretary due to work-related medical leave.
Employment in this temporary position, with no benefits, will terminate at the end of the
calendar year. There is no cost to the City's general fund as this position will be funded by the
salary savings that will result from the Executive Secretary being off work and being paid by
Workers' Compensation.
It is requested that the three floor motions be adopted.
