Report by City Attorney on Gang/Prostitute Injunctions and Red Light
Abatements, Inspection/Asbestos/Demolition Warrants, and Code/Fire
Team Inspections (Agenda Item #S1)
Attached to this staff report is a one page document listing the gang injunctions and prostitute
injunctions (red light abatements) filed by this office from October 24, 1997 to March 10,2003.
Four of these actions involved targeted activity in the First Ward and in the Sixth Ward. Two
involved targeted activity in the Second Ward and in the Third Ward. One involved targeted activity
in the Fourth Ward.
Also attached to this staff report is a three page document listing
inspection/asbestos/demolition warrants prepared by this office from February 27, 2003 through
August 27, 2003. These warrants are then issued by the court for execution on the offending
properties. This document shows that thirty warrants were prepared for properties in the Second
Ward. Twenty warrants were prepared for properties in the First Ward and in the Sixth Ward.
Thirteen warrants were for the Seventh Ward, six for the Third Ward, five for the Fourth Ward and
two for the Fifth Ward.
The third document attached to this staff report is a one page list of code/fire team
inspections conducted from January, 2002 through August, 2003. It shows that seven inspections
were conducted in the First Ward, five in the Sixth Ward, four in the Second Ward and in the
Seventh Ward, two in the Fourth Ward and one in the Third Ward.
This agenda item will be presented in greater detail at thc September 2, 2003 Mayor and
Common Council meeting.
