Descri tion Rehabilitation of Waterman Avenue, from Barton Road to REd lands Blvd. Finance' Council Notes: 7<;.n?j;;? Agenda Item No. /3 CITY OF SAN BERNA: ~DINO - REQUEST FC 1 COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT During the installation of the 33-inch reinforced concrete storm drain pipe on Waterman Avenue and Caroline Street, the existing traffic signal conduit was found to be at a depth of 3-feet instead of the depth of 18 inches, which is indicated on the plans. Ci ty standards show traffic signal conduit to be in- stalled at a depth of 18 to 24 inches. It is, therefore, unusual for conduit in the City of San Bernardino to be installed at a depth exceeding 24 inches. The construction plans for this project the conduit was at a depth of 18 inches. However, who constructed the traffic signals actually conduit at a depth of about 3 feet. indicated that the contractor installed the Conduit event of a minor the conduit could to be removed and can normally be raised a small amount in the conflict. However, due to the unexpected depth, not be raised to clear the storm drain, but had reinstalled. In order to provide temporary service to the traffic signals while making the necessary modifications to the conduits, it was necessary for the contractor to reroute traffic signal wiring overhead. There were 3 conduits which needed to be re- located to clear the storm drain. It was also necessary for the contractor to remove the existing wiring and pull new wire through the conduit, as the existing wiring was too short to be reused in the conduit. The total estimated project cost included an amount of $48,437.46 in contingencies which is available to fund the cost for this extra work. We recommend that Contract Change Order No. approved. 3 be 11-9-93 .,,,_n?~4 C I T Y 0 F SAN B ERN A R DIN 0 DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS ENGINEERING DIVISION project: PAVEMENT REHABILITATION, TRAFFIC SIGNAL INTERCONNECT AND STORM DRAIN IMPROVEMENTS-WATERMAN AVENUE;REDLANDS BLVD.
