Synopsis of Previous Council Action:
April 7, 2003 - Mayor and Council approved the appointment of Ken Childress, Director
of Animal Control; and approved a salary of $6,847/month ($82,164 annually) for the
Director of Animal Control

Backl!round:
On Apri] 7, 2003, the Mayor and Council approved the appointment of Ken Childress as the
Director of Anima] Control. In order to attract the most high]y-qualified candidate, it was
necessary to adjust the salary of the position. The Mayor and Council approved the salary of
$6,847/month ($82,164 annually) for the Director of Anima] Control, and directed staff to bring
back this matter to the Personnel Committee and then to Council for adoption of the new salary
range. The Personnel Committee meeting of Apri] 14 was cancelled, so this item is being
brought directly to the Council for consideration.
The following chart shows the current salary ranges of the City's Director positions, the current
salary range for the Director of Anima] Control, and the proposed range:

This amendment to the resolution changes the range for the Director of Anima] Control from
Range 4509 to Range 4529. It also updates the resolution to include action taken by the Mayor
and Council on October 21, 2002, to reclassify the position of Budget Manager, Range 4498, in
the Finance Department to Deputy Director/Budget Manager, Range 4505.
