Description: Signing & Striping Materials Finance: Council Notes: '\2CY1~12CC~:3' S Agenda Item No. 1:3 1- '-tJ3 CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT Subiect: Authorization to declare Olive Avenue a through highway from Belmont Avenue to and including Garfield Street. Backl!:round: The Traffic Engineering Section received a request from a citizen to install a stop sign at the intersection of Meyers Road and Olive Avenue. Traffic Engineering Staff evaluated the request. This is a 4-legged intersection that currently has a stop sign for westbound traffic but not for eastbound traffic. The east side of Meyers Road (westbound approach) is still under construction by the adjacent developer and has not been accepted by the City. The contractor installed the existing stop sign. The area of the study was expanded to include the intersection of Olive A venue and Akron Street because this is the only other uncontrolled intersection along the segment of Olive Street between Belmont A venue and Garfield A venue. Due to visibility limitations caused by landscaping and elevated pads, staff recommends that both Akron Street and Meyers Road be controlled by stop signs on their approaches to Olive Avenue. There are three other intersections along this section of Olive Street that are currently controlled by stop signs. The developers installed the stop signs at the time the roads were originally built. For consistency, it is recommended that these intersections be included in Resolution No. 655. Due to the sight limitations it is recommended that stop signs be installed on Akron Street and Meyers Road intersections with Olive Avenue. Additionally, it is recommended that the existing stop signs on Olive Avenue between Belmont Avenue between Garfield Street be included in Resolution No. 655. Also included in the attached Resolution is an eXlstmg 4-way stop at the intersection of Belmont Avenue and Olive Avenue. This 4-way stop was approved by the Mayor and Council on December 2, 1996. Again, for consistency, it is recommended that this 4-way stop be included in Resolution No. 655. Financial Imoact: The estimated cost of $1,000.00 for installing the new stop signs will come from Account No. 001-187-5111 (Signing and Striping Materials) Recommendation: Adopt Resolution.
