Description: Street Maintenance Council Notes: Finance: 'R~5D. c?ODlo-l!1:f Agenda Item No.lg lQ ISlbfl CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT o Subject: Authorization to establish a 4- Way Stop at the intersection of Mill Street at Macy Street. Back2round: The City has received numerous several complaints relative to traffic safety at the intersection of Mill Street and Macy Street. The complainants' claim that numerous accidents occur at the intersection and that either a traffic signal or 4-way stop should be installed to improve traffic safety. The Traffic Engineering Section of the Development Services Department evaluated the intersection. A traffic signal is warranted at this intersection, however, funding for its installation has not been identified. Consequently it is recommended that a four-way stop be installed at the intersection while the signal is installed. This action is consistent with Manual on Uniform and Traffic Control Devices that allows the installation of multi-way stop signs as an interim measure while the traffic signal is constrUcted (see attached warrants). Staff feels that installation of a 4-way stop will improve traffic safety at the intersection. Consequently, it is recommended that it be installed as an interim measure while the traffic signal is constrUcted. o Financial Impact: The estimated cost of $1,500 for installing the new stop signs will come from Account No. 001- 402-5111 (Street Maintenance). Recommendation: Adopt Resolution. o 2 o o o Mill Street at Macy Street Authorization to Establish 4-Way Stop OLocation of Proposed 4-Way Stop 'Lh , ~:~15~~@DI NO .....-..........,. ,.j.- --.-., v} ;. r.[uE>iE.. :T rrtill'C" A' ;~ :H>J1-, "II ~" ; . -~~~~ RNA.RD /N{(fr:Qj/NT . . ;,; iliJfF ,t,- -:.<..' ~ '., --'- ,,; 3:;3 - ,= '>:, :~'''' .., "" ~._ .. m. .,1," ';::'L.i."-'_ '~j -11 ElLEII /~lJ~;.~< '-;"'l~l:~- ,JF.'I'J~{Jl ,.;1'''':11 >, .'
