CITY OF SAN BERNACDINO - REQUEST FcC COUNCIL ACTION c o o 17500264 STAFF REPORT A Comprehens i ve A 1 coho 1 and Drug Prevention Educati on (CADPE) Grant, authorized by the Office of Criminal Justice Planning (OCJP), has been awarded to the San Bernardi no County Superi ntendent of Schools Offi ce and allotments from said monies are available to school districts for funding of programs conforming to grant requirements. The San Bernardino City Unified School District has applied for and been granted funding from the Comprehensive Alcohol and Drug Prevention Education Grant. With part of this funding, the San Bernardino City Unified School has contracted with the San Bernardino City Police Department to provide an additional D.A.R.E. Officer. This funding is based on a fiscal year and is renewable for a total of five (5) years. The amount funded is 100% of the offi cer I s salary and benefits ($55,993). A request for Council Action dated May 31, 1990, requested an adoption of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Police Department and the San Bernardino City Unified School District. The request for Council Action of May 31, 1990, did not specifically request that the Mayor and Common Council authorize an additional police officer in the police department's authorized sworn personnel level. By adopting Resolution #90-311, the Mayor and Common Council ratified the C.A.D.P.E. Grant Memorandum of Understanding. This authorized the funding of an additional D.A.R.E. Officer, but did not create an additional position in the Police Department's authorized sworn personnel level. This oversight will be corrected by the Mayor and Common Council authorizing the addi t i on of one pol ice offi cer to the Pol ice Department I s authori zed sworn personnel level and directing the Personnel Department to prepare an amendment to Resolution No. 64-33, reflecting this change.
