Recommended motion:
1Q' That the salaries for Fire Department Ranges P-1 (Fire Fighter), P-2 (F"ire Investigator),
. 3 (Fire Engineer), P-4 (Fire Captain) and Fire Fi9hter Trainee be established
ffective August 1, 1990 as outlined in the attached staff report.
2. That the Personnel Department prepare an amendment to Resolution No. 6429, and
Resolution 6413, Section 13.

STAFF REPORT
section 186 of the city Charter establishes a formula for
setting salaries for local safety members effective each
August 1. City staff has reached agreement with representa-
tives of the San BernardinojRialto Firefighters' Local 891 on
the 10 cities whose salaries will be averaged to determine
this year's P-1, P-2, P-3 and P-4 salaries for the Fire
Department. The cities selected are:
Anaheim
Chula vista
Irvine
Mission Viejo
ontario
Rancho cucamonga
Riverside
Santa Ana
Thousand Oaks
Torrance
The new monthly salary ranges, effective August 1, 1990, are:

The increase in step "5" for each range from 1989 is as

Adding 39% to reflect variable fringe benefit costs which
rise with salary, the total added cost for salaries and
fringe benefits is $584,234.
The Firefighter Trainee salary will be increased to $2050
which is 80% of the Fire Fighter Step 1 salary. Resolutions
6429 and 6413, Section 13 will be updated reflecting the
increased salaries.
