BACKGROUND The Recreation Division has provided an extended day program to the students of Belvedere Elementary School 1977. The program is funded through registration fees coordinated with the San Bernardino city Unified District. care since and is School The program is supervised on-site by an employee filling a temporary Recreation Specialist position. This employee performs record keeping, deposits funds, purchases supplies, coordinates with parents, and supervises 4 part time staff, (3 Recreation Leaders and 1 Senior Recreation Leader) who conduct recreation programs for the participants. The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week. The continuity in the program is difficult to because it is hard to retain well qualified people length of time for temporary positions. Belvedere Extended Day Care services 60 1st 6th grade students, 25 High Intensity Language Training (H.I.L.T.) Program students, a special program for non-english speaking children, 18 AM Kindergarten and 18 PM Kindergarten students. This program provides a valuable service to the parents of students attending Belvedere Elementary School. maintain for any RECOMMENDATION The results of the study indicate that the Recreation specialist position corresponds to the duties of the Recreation Program coordinator classification. The current Recreation specialist position has an hourly salary range of $5.75 to $6.34. It is recommended that this position be budgeted as a full time position entitled Recreation Program coordinator. The Recreation Program Coordinator is a general unit position at salary range #1074, $1505 $1833/mo. The annual costs, including fringe benefits for this position will be $28,595 (step 5), an increase of $16,032 from the current expenditure of $12,563 for the existing part time Recreation Specialist position. This position does not impact the general fund since it is funded from fees charged at the Belvedere site which go directly into the Belvedere Trust Account. The current fee level is sufficient to pay for the full time position.
