06-19-89 Resolution No. 89-219 adopted authorizing execution
of Program Supplement No. 54.
10-02-89 Resolution No. 89-394 adopted, awarding a contract
for the low bid price of $354,998.50.
Recommended motion:
That Change Order No. One to the contract for the Rehabilitation
of Pavement on South "E" Street, in accordance with Plan No.
7609, be approved, authorizing the Contractor to replace existing
deteriorated concrete sidewalk, driveway approaches, and curb
and gutter, at an increase in the contract price of $14,100.00,
from $354,998.50 to $369,098.50.

STAFF REPORT
During construction, several areas of the existing
concrete sidewalk, driveway approaches, and curb and gutter
along South "E" Street were found to have settled due to the
high ground water. These areas posed potential hazard to
pedestrian traffic, which mandated that they be removed and
replaced.
The Contractor has agreed to a 24% reduction in the
contract unit price for the extra quantity of concrete re-
placement, in excess of 125% of the estimated quantities listed
in the bid documents, in accordance with Section 4-1.03B of the
Standard Specifications.
Change Order No. One will authorize the Contractor to
replace areas of deteriorated concrete sidewalk, driveway
approaches, and curb and gutter for an increase in the contract
price of $14,100.00, from $354,998.50 to $369,098.50. This
increase represents an additional 62.5 cubic yards of concrete.
Federal-Aid Urban funds will be used to finance 86% of
the additional cost. The original total estimated project
estimate included an amount of $64,001.50 for contingencies,
which can be used to finance the cost for this change order.
We recommend that Change Order No. One be approved.

THIS CHANGE ORDER PROVIDES FOR
Existing concrete curb & gutter, sidewalk and driveway
approaches were found to be deteriorated and posed hazards
to pedestrian traffic. The areas determined to be the worse
were designated for removal and replacement by the Engineer.
The total quantity of extra removed and replaced concrete
is 62.5 C.Y. The first 25% over the contract quantity is
paid at the contract price of $275/CY for Bid Item No. 18,
Miscellaneous Concrete Construction. The remaining 75%
overage is paid at the agreed price of $210/CY.
The total cost of this change order is $14,100.00 which can
be financed from contingency funds.
A five-day time extension is granted to perform this work.
