STAFF REPORT
Subject: Initiation of a General Plan Amendment for the
Northwest Corner of "E" street and 27th street.
Mayor and Common Council Meeting of April 2, 1990.
During the land use hearings for the adoption of the General
Plan, the northwest corner of "E" street and 27th street was
designated CG-1, Commercial General which permits a range of
commercial retail uses. The site contains a vacant structure
previously used as a hospital. The building has been vacant
for more than 180 days.
Development consistent with the CG-1, Commercial General
designation could introduce uses that may be incompatible
with the surrounding residential neighborhood. Residential
development, on the other hand, would probably be compatible
with the existing residential uses.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend that the Mayor and Common Council direct the
Planning and Building Services Department to initiate a
general plan amendment for the northwest corner of "E" street
and 27th Street and to consider a residential designation for
the site.
