Recommended motion:
That the plans for construction of a pedestrian bridge from the
Thrifty Building (City Hall Annex) to the Five-Level Parking
Structure, in accordance with Plan No. 8076, be approved; and the
Director of Public Works/City Engineer be authorized to advertise
for bids.

STAFF REPORT
Plans for the construction of a pedestrian bridge, from
the third floor of the Thrifty Building to the fifth level of
the Five-Level Parking Structure, have been prepared by the
Engineering/Architectural firm of DMJM, and the project is ready
to be advertised for bids. The project consists of constructing
a covered pedestrian walkway to facilitate access from the
parking structure.
Listed below is an estimate of the total project cost.
Construction Contract $ 80,000
Engineering/Architectural Consultant's Fee 20,000
Engineering & Inspection (W.O. #1360) 1,500
Sub-Total $ 101,500
Contingencies (5%) ! 5,000
TOTAL ESTIMATED PROJECT COST $ 106,500

An amount of $300,000 has been provided by the Redevel-
opment Agency to finance the cost of renovating this building
for a City Hall Annex. According to the latest estimate, an
additional $292,500 will be needed to fully finance the total
cost of renovation. This amount will be loan8d by the Rede-
velopment Agency to cover the total renovation cost. The cost
for replacing the roof will be financed from these funds.
We recommend that the plans be
authorization granted to advertise for bids.

URGENCY CLAUSE:
Approval of the plans and authorization to advertise for bids
will need to be granted at the meeting of 3-5-90, in order to
comply with the schedule for renovating the building.
