Authorization to establish a 3-Way Stop at the intersection of Inland Center Drive and "I"
Street.
Back2round:
City staff visited Urbita Elementary School as part of the School of the Month program. During
the meeting, parents and school staff expressed concern relative to the intersection of Inland
Center Drive and " I" Street. This is a " T" intersection with a I-way stop. "I" Street stops at
Inland Center Drive. The concern is that kids are crossing Inland Center Drive at this heavily
traveled intersection. The concern is more apparent now since a new housing development was
completed on the south side of the street. Urbita School is located north of this intersection. To
alleviate these concerns it was requested that the City install a 3-way stop.
Since both " I" Street and Inland Center Drive are classified as arterials in the City' s General
Plan, the standard warrants for installation of multi-way stop signs were used to evaluate the
intersection.
The evaluation found that the intersection meets volume warrants for a 3-way stop (see attached
warrants). Consequently, staff recommends that the attached Resolution be approved, authorizing
the installation of a 3-way stop at the intersection of Inland Center Drive at " I" Street.
The attached Resolution contains a correction as follows:

Financial Impact:
The estimated cost of $2,500 for installing the new stop signs will come from Account No. 001-
402-5111 (Street Maintenance).
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution.

NO. 655 ENTITLED, IN PART, "A RESOLUTION... DESIGNATING CERTAIN
STREETS, OR PORTIONS THEREOF AS THROUGH HIGHWAYS..." AND
ESTABLISHING A THREE-WAY STOP AT THE INTERSECTION OF INLAND
CENTER DRIVE AT "I" STREET.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: Resolution No. 655, which designates certain streets, or portions
thereof, as through highways, Section One is amended by amending Subsection (I) to read as
follows:
"( I) ALL OF BASE LINE STREET, "E" STREET, EUCALYPTUS
A VENUE, "F" STREET, HIGHLAND A VENUE, MT. VERNON
AVENUE, PEPPER A VENUE, SIERRA WAY, UNIVERSITY
PARKWAY, VICTORIA AVENUE, lying within the City of San
Bernardino.
SECTION 2: Resolution No. 655, which designates certain streets, or portions
thereof, as through highways, Section One is amended by adding Subsection (8.45)
"I" STREET to read as follows:
