STAFF REPORT
Subject: Joint Workshop of the Mayor and Common Council and Planning Commission
related to the General Plan Update Program.
Mayor and Common Council Meeting of July 5, 2005
BACKGROUND
The General Plan Update Program is nearing completion and the Draft Environmental
Impact Report (OEIR) will be released for its 45-day public review period in July.
Although the OEIR will be distributed to the Planning Commission and Mayor and
Common Council, staff believes it would be helpful to present a summary of the
anticipated environmental impacts and a recap of the Updated General Plan, prior to the
formal public hearing process. In addition, staff believes it would be beneficial for the
Mayor and Common Council to hold a joint workshop with the Planning Commission for
this purpose. It will provide an opportunity for both bodies to hear firsthand the others
viewpoints.
For these same reasons, staffwill also be proposing a joint public hearing of the Mayor and
Common Council and Planning Commission for adoption of the Updated General Plan.
The date has not been determined yet - it is contingent upon the comments received on the
OEIR and the length of time necessary to prepare responses, but staff anticipates that it will
be in September 2005.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Not applicable.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Mayor and Common Council set ajoint workshop with the
Planning Commission for Monday, July 25,2005 at 3:00 p.m. in the EOA Board Room to
discuss the General Plan Update Program.
