Subject:
Authorization to remove certain sections of the "No Parking Any Time" zone that currently exists on
the west side of Little Mountain Drive between 27th Street and 1465 feet north of 27th Street.
Backln'ound:
The Traffic Engineering Section received a request, via the Council Office, to remove the existing
parking prohibition on the west side of Little Mountain Drive between 27th Street and 1465 feet
north of 27th Street. The new manager of the property that fronts this section of Little Mountain
Drive is requesting additional on-street parking to supplement a shortage of off-street parking on
the adjacent site.
Traffic Engineering staff evaluated the request. This restriction was placed several years ago to
alleviate sight restrictions at the driveways that access this property. Four driveways are used to
access this property. For consistency and with the concurrence of the managers of the property at
that time, parking was prohibited over the entire section fronting the property.
Staff had a concern relative to the removal of the parking prohibition, as requested, because of the
sight visibility problems. Consequently, staff completed a sight distance analysis to determine the
need for and extent of the parking prohibitions that should remain in place. Staff concluded that
leaving one-hundred feet of no parking on the north side of each driveway and fifty feet of no
parking on the south side of each driveway would provide adequate sight distance for motorists
entering Little Mountain Drive at each driveway while opening up some on-street parking on the
west side of the street. Staff further recommends leaving the parking prohibition over a one-
hundred foot section just north of 27th Street. Approval of the above recommendations would
create approximately thirty-two (32) full size parking spaces within this section of Little Mountain
Drive.
Staff recommends that the attached Resolution be approved, authorizing the removal of certain
sections of the existing parking prohibition while maintaining the parking prohibitions adjacent to
the driveways and on the southbound approach to the intersection of 27th Street and Little Mountain
Drive.
Financial Impact:
The estimated cost of $800.00 for removing the "No Parking" signs and painting red curbs adjacent to
the driveways will come from Account No. 001-402-5111 (Street Maintenance).
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution.

SECTION 1: Resolution No. 3985, which prohibits parking upon certain
designated streets or portions thereof, Section One, Subsection (20.3) LITTLE MOUNTAIN
DRIVE is amended by amending Subsection "A" to read as follows:
