Staff Report
Resolution authorizing the execution of a purchase order to Crest Chevrolet for six (6)
2005 Chevy Equinox SUVs to be utilized by the Fire Department Apartment Inspection
Program.
BACKGROUND:
On July 19, 2004, the Mayor and Common Council adopted Ordinance of the City of
San Bernardino, amending Chapter 15.25 of the San Bernardino Municipal Code to
include the Multi-family Rental Housing Fire Inspection Program. The program will
necessitate the addition of six (6) Fire Prevention positions, as indicated on the attached
program summary. The new Fire Prevention staff will be responsible for inspecting
every rental unit in complexes of four (4) units or more on an annual basis, requiring a
vehicle for each of the six additional Fire Prevention positions.
Fleet staff obtained seven (7) quotes for small size SUVs, with the lowest quote from
Crest Chevrolet in San Bernardino for a total price of $19,865.48 for each vehicle.

Staff is therefore recommending approval of a purchase order to Crest Chevrolet in the
amount of $19,865.48 per unit for six (6) vehicles amounting to a total cost of
$119,192.88.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funds for this request are available in the Vehicle Replacement fund, Motor Vehicles
Account No. 635-341-5701. The Fire Inspection Program will pay the Fleet fund back
over a five year period for the purchase of these vehicles. $26,400 has been budgeted
in Account No. 001-20705609 for the first payment.

RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN BERNARDINO AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A PURCHASE ORDER
TO CREST CHEVROLET FOR SIX (6) 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX SUV'S TO BE
UTILIZED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT APARTMENT INSPECTION PROGRAM.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the City of San Bernardino Municipal Code, Chapter 15.25,
Multi-family Rental Housing Fire Inspection Program was amended Oh July 19, 2004,
necessitating the addition of six (6) Fire Prevention positions, and requiring additional
vehicles for each position.
SECTION 2. That Crest Chevrolet of San Bernardino submitted the best and
lowest quote for the purchase of six Chevrolet Equinox SUVs in the total amount of
$119,192.88. Pursuant to this determination the Purchasing Manager is hereby
authorized to issue a purchase order to Crest Chevrolet of San Bernardino, in the
amount of $119,192.88.
SECTION 3. That the Purchase Order shall reference this Resolution
No.2004-_ and shall read, "Purchase of six (6) Year 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
SUV's for the Fire Department" not to exceed $119,192.88 and shall incorporate the
terms and conditions of this Resolution, which is on file in the City Clerk's Office.
SECTION 4. The authorization to execute the above referenced Purchase
Order is rescinded if not issued within sixty (60) days of the passage of this resolution.
