SUBJECT
Authorization to reject all bids for the remodel of the cat building at the City Animal Shelter.
BACKGROUND
The Cat Building was built in 1984 and consists of a 1200 square foot steel building with interior
partitions. The building has full utility services (electricity, water and sewer). The building is
currently cooled by an evaporative cooler and heated by a ceiling-hung gas heater. A 40-gallon water
heater supplies hot water. Renovations to the Cat Building are needed to improve conditions for the
animals and reduce the potential for cross exposure.
On September 9, 2004, the Purchasing Manager received one bid for the remodeling of the Cat
Building from Dalke & Sons of Riverside in the amount of $179,690.00. The project budget is
$75,000, making their proposal $104,690 over budget. Staff recommends that this bid be rejected
and that staff be authorized to rebid the project.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The renovation of the Cat Building at the City Animal Shelter is project number GB 04-09. The
project will be funded by means of a five-year lease-purchase fmancing package in the amount of
$75,000.00.
RECOMMENDATION
Authorize the Finance Director to reject all bids to RFQ F-05-022, remodel of the Cat Building at
the City Animal Shelter, and authorize the Finance Director to rebid the project.
