Description: Street Maintenance Finance: Council Notes: ~:ti:2.("Cl4-- 3J&' Agenda Item No. / C:, /O/4/0L( CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT Subiect: Authorization to establish a 3-Way Stop at the intersection of Rosarita Street/Bronson Street and Cristy Avenue. Backl!round: Development Services Staff received a request from the residents of the area surrounding the intersection of Bronson Street/Rosarita Street and Cristy A venue (Rosarita Street/Bronson Street start/end at Cristy Avenue). The requestors feel that installation of a 3-way stop at this intersection will enhance traffic safety in this area. All of the referenced streets are classified as local, residential streets within this area. Consequently, the request was evaluated in accordance with City's Administrative Policy for Stop Sign Installation. The requestors circulated a petition that was prepared by staff and signed by residents in the vicinity of the intersection. Traffic Engineering Section staff evaluated the request. Pursuant to the evaluation, staff has determined that this intersection meets Warrant "B" of the Administrative Policy (see attachment). This warrant is satisfied when sixty (60%) percent of the residents located within six-hundred (600) feet of the proposed stop signs, sign a petition agreeing to their installation and, that at least two other criteria are met. In this case, criteria B-2 and B-9 are met. Part B- 2 of the warrant is met when the streets leading into the intersection do not intersect at right angles. Part B-9 is met when one approach to the intersection is a residential driveway servicing a residential property. Since this intersection meets Warrant "B" of the Administrative Policy for Installation of Stop Signs, staff recommends the installation of a 3-way stop at the intersection of Rosarita Streett Bronson Street and Cristy Avenue. Financial Impact: The estimated cost of $ 1,400.00 for installing the new stop signs will come from Account No. 001-402-5111 (Street Maintenance). Recommendation: Adopt Resolution. 2 Bronson StreetlRosarita Street at Cristy Avenue Authorization to Establish 3-Way Stop o Location of Proposed 3-Way Stop Location Existing Contnll PnIpncf II;u.ta ~CIItckId Ilf/Date t? _ --=~~ . c-... t!' - .
