Carjack hero
saves the day

Paul Sanhorn is somewhere
nearby.
A 22-year-old San Bernardino
woman and her two small chil-
dren are alive today, possibly
because Sanhorn, a San Bemar-
dino fire splinkler company
owner, witnessed the crime and
followed her car until he couid
flag down a sheriffs deputy.
The suspect, .52-year-old
.!ames Jolmson of Redlands, is
being held on kidnapping

The incident started about2:30
p.m. ~'eb. 5, when SaIl horn, who
was headed north on D Street,
stopped at a red light at Fifth. He
saw a large man in the middle of
the street "acting crazy" and
trying to stop cars, he said.
One woman stopped, and the
man ran to the passenger side
and tried to get ill,Sanhorn said.

watched. When he glanced
away for a split-second, the man
vanished. Then Sanbom saw a
whUe car go by with a young:
woman at thc wheel - and the
man in the passenger seat.
He called dispatch again and
started following the car, read-
ing the Ilcense number to the
dispatcher and dictatic.g his 10-

The car went to Waterman

Sanborn said.
He went over to the woman.
