Staff Report
Subject:
A resolution authorizing the execution of a purchase order to Municipal Maintenance
Equipment Inc. for a Steril-KONI Model ST4250-8 54,000 lb. Four-Post Heavy Duty
Vehicle Lift, to be utilized by the Public Services Department, Fleet Division.
Background:
The Fleet Division utilizes a 1988 OMER aboveground hoist that has recently been
deemed unsafe and has been taken out of service due to structural cracking. This
model is no longer in production, and repair parts are no longer available, making it non-
repairable. This hoist is critical to maintaining the City's compliance with the State
mandated PMI inspection program of Heavy Duty Commercial vehicles. This 17-year-
old unit will be placed in surplus for auction.
There are no local dealers for this type of equipment. Fleet staff obtained quotes from
Midway Equipment, Municipal Maintenance Equipment Inc., and Mohawk Resources
Ltd. for a unit that meets the Fleet Division's specifications. MME Inc. was the lowest
qualified quote; and has offered the City the same pricing as was bid to the City of
Bakersfield in a previous bid for a higher capacity lift of 54,OOOlbs. See exhibit #1:

Municipal Maintenance Equipment Inc. was the lowest responsive quote and staff is
therefore recommending approval of a purchase order in the amount of $57,115.61 for a
Stertil-KONI model ST4175-8 4-post54,OOO lb. Vehicle lift, to include a lighting set and
rolling jacking beam, pursuant to Municipal Code Chapter 3.04.010 Section B.3.
Financial Impact:
Funds for this request are available in the FY 2004/2005 Undesignated Refuse Fund
Balance ($28,558.00) and in Budgeted Vehicle Replacement funds ($28,557.61) where
sufficient money is available to cover the amount requested.
Recommendation:
Adopt resolution.

RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN BERNARDINO AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A PURCHASE ORDER
TO MUNICIPAL MAINTENANCE EQUIPMENT INC. FOR A STERIL-KONI MODEL
ST4250-8 54,000 LB FOUR-POST HEAVY DUTY VEHICLE LIFT.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That Municipal Maintenance Equipment Inc. has offered a
negotiated purchase price of $57,115.61 for a Steril-KONI Model ST4250-8 54,000 lb.
Four-Post Heavy Duty Vehicle Lift and is the selected vendor. Pursuant to this
determination the Purchasing Manager is hereby authorized to issue a purchase order
to Municipal Maintenance Equipment Inc., Anaheim, CA. in the amount of $57,115.61
for the replacement of a broken, non repairable and non certifiable vehicle lift which
will facilitate maintaining the City's compliance with the State mandated PMI inspection
program of Heavy Duty Commercial vehicles.
SECTION 2. The Purchase Order shall reference this Resolution No. 2005-_
and shall read, "Purchase of one Steril-KONI Model ST4250-8 54,000 LB. Four-Post
Heavy Duty Vehicle Lift, to be utilized by the Public Services Department, Fleet
Division. P.O. No.
, not to exceed $57,115.61" andlor shall
incorporate the terms and conditions of the Contract, which is on file in the City Clerk's
Office.
SECTION 3. The authorization to execute the above referenced Purchase
Order is rescinded if not issued within sixty (60) days of the passage of this resolution.
