ORDINANCE NO. NC-50~
2 ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING CHAPTER
15.16 OF THE SAN BERNARDINO MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO AUTOMATIC
3 FIRE EXTINGUISHING SPRINKLER SYSTEMS AND FIRE ALARMS IN
COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS.

THE MAYOR AND COMMON ~OUNSIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO
5 DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
6 SECTION 1. Section 15.16.212 of the San Bernardino
7 Municipal Code is added to read as follows:
8 "15.16.212 Automatic Fire Extinguishing Systems.
9 Section 10.308 Subsections (a), (c) paragraphs 1 and 3, and
10 (d) of the Uniform Fire Code are amended to read as follows:

10.308.(a) General Requirements. An automatic fire
12 extinguishing system shall be installed in the occupancies and
13 locations as set forth in this section. This section shall apply
14 to all new construction or remodel of existing structures that
15 increases the total square footage to the limitations set forth
16 in this section.
17 For special provisions on hazardous chemicals and magnesium,
18 and calcium carbide, see Section 10.301 and 45.208 and Articles
19 48, 49 and 80.
20 10.308.(c) Group A Occupancies. 1. An automatic sprinkler
21 system shall be installed in all buildings or portions of
22 buildings classified by code as Group A, Division 1; Division 2,
23 Division 2.1; or Division 3 occupancies that exceed five thousand
24 square feet in floor area.
25 Exceptions: 1. All occupancies of Type I F.R. or Type II F.R.
26 construction of the square footage allowed by Uniform Building
27 Code Chapter 5, provided with an approved fire detection system,
28 within all buildings or portions of buildings classified by code

as Group A, Division 1; Division 2, Division 2.1; or Division 3.
10.308.Cc) 3. Exhibition and Display Rooms. An automatic
sprinkler system shall be installed in rooms classified as Group
A occupancies which have more than five thousand square feet of
floor area which can be used for exhibition or display purposes.
10.30B.Cd) Group B Occupancies. An automatic sprinkler
system shall be installed in all buildings or portions of
buildings classified by code as Group B, Division 1; Division 2;
or Division 3 that exceed five thousand square feet in floor
area.
Exceptions: All occupancies of Type I F.R. or Type II F.R.
construction of the square footage allowed by Uniform Building Code
Chapter 5, provided with an approved fire detection system within
all buildings or portions of buildings classified by code as
Group A, Division 1; Division 2; Division 2.1; or Division 3~
SECTION 2. Section 15.16.216 of the San Bernardino
Municipal Code is added to read as follows:
"15.16.216 Automatic Sprinkler System Alarms.
Section 10.309 of the Uniform Fire Code is amended to read
as follows:
Automatic sprinkler systems serving a sprinklered building
in excess of five thousand square feet or serving more than one
hundred sprinklers, shall be supervised by an approved central,
proprietary or remote station service or a local alarm which will
give an audible signal at a constantly attended location."
