HomeMy WebLinkAboutMayor and City Council Report 12-04-24 rev1UPDATEDGrant Funding Update on Homeless Activities Grant Funding Update on Homeless Activities Spirit of the Entrepreneurship Awards The 22nd Spirit of the Entrepreneur is presented by the Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship at Cal State San Bernardino and recognizes the best entrepreneurs from across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties! Four San Bernardino businesses and their leaders were among the 300 nominees and 34 finalists in seven categories. Entrepreneurship Is Alive and Well in San Bernardino! Congratulations to the San Bernardino businesses who won four of the seven awards! Anita's Mexican Foods not only won for Best Manufacturing Entrepreneur but was awarded the "Best of the Best" Award as the grand champion among the other award winners. Aviation training company World-Wide Wings and Naushad Imam Mohammed were awarded Best General Entrepreneur. Local nonprofit Children's Fund and Cesar Navarrete were awarded Best Social Entrepreneur. Tomorrow's Talent and Dr. Dale Marsden were awarded Best Service Based Entrepreneur. Congratulations to all of our local winners! Thanksgiving for the Animals Last Wednesday, over 40 volunteers gathered early in the morning to surprise the shelter animals with a special meal at the 4th annual Thanksgiving at the Shelter. Over 300 dogs and one excited pig were treated to a special meal that included ground turkey, rice, vegetables, and a special doggie treat. Nicholson Park Construction Continues The $8.8 million renovation at Nicholson Park continues to make progress. Among the improvements at the 9.5- acre park are a new entry way and parking lot for easier access, a new baseball field, lighting throughout the park, a walking path, new restrooms, concession stands and a universal playground. The project remains on schedule to be completed, and the park re-opened by Spring 2025. Cross Street Bridge Taken Down The Cross Street Bridge was demolished yesterday as part of the project to replace the structurally unsound bridge near Conejo Drive. The bridge replacement project was approved by the Council earlier this year and will include the restoration of part of the Fairfax Elementary School playground, which is being used as a temporary access road to the neighborhood affected by the bridge closure. The bridge replacement and playground restoration are expected to be completed by April of 2025. City Updates Ho Ho Parade Returns Next Week! One of San Bernardino’s favorite holiday traditions, the Community Ho Ho Parade, returns from December 9-12 through the streets of San Bernardino nightly between 6-8 pm with activities at both the Parade starting and ending points. Visit www.hohoparade.com for parade routes as every night is different. Chromebooks at Feldheym Library Google Chromebooks are now available for in library check out at Feldheym Library. Library Card holders over 18 in good standing can check out the computers and enjoy the Library’s free wifi. Holiday music will fill the air while kids of all ages will take family photos, ice skate, enjoy hot chocolate, write letters to Santa, decorate ornaments, and see snow fall from the sky at the Miracle on Court Street from December 5-22! Festivities will begin tomorrow night at the annual tree lighting from 5-9 pm with the tree lighting and a visit from Santa taking place at 6:00 pm. Miracle on Court Street Tree Lighting December 5
