At a press conference this morning, the City
announced that the lawsuit filed by the ACLU
regarding homeless encampment cleanups has been
dismissed and the injunction prohibiting the City from
performing cleanups has been lifted.
In an agreement with the ACLU, the City has codified
its encampment cleanup policy, designated a
disability coordinator to evaluate and approve
accommodation requests, and will enhance training
for City staff and contractors on the cleanup policy.
Encampment cleanups at San Bernardino parks are
expected to resume in the coming weeks.
City Takes Over Ownership of Harris Building
The City of San Bernardino has
completed its acquisition of the former
Harris Building on E Street.
The City has commenced with
enhanced security of the building,
including the installation of new steel
fencing and barriers to points of
access.
With the acquisition of the building, the
City now owns the entire Carousel Mall
property.
New Businesses Coming to San Bernardino
During the months of August and September,
the Business Registration Department issued
377 licenses to new businesses and
companies doing business in the City.
This Friday, October 4, San Bernardino will
welcome Dutch Bros. Coffee to their new
location on University Parkway and Varsity.
At the same center, Chick-fil-A plans to open
on October 24, and Panera Bread is looking at
an opening in late November.

This morning, the final steel of nine girders were
lifted into place, completing the span of the Mt.
Vernon Bridge.
The girders are 182 feet long, weigh 250,000 pounds
each, and are the longest pre-cast girders made for
a bridge in California. They were delivered from
Northern California via two special trucks along
with CHP escort.
A total of 53 girders between 90 and
182 feet long were used to complete the
quarter mile long span.
The bridge is expected to be completed by
summer, 2025.
Animal Shelter Updates
Animal Shelter Kennel Under Construction
A new kennel building is under construction at the Shelter.
The building to be fully heated and air conditioned,
will house 34 kennels – 17 for small dogs and 17
for large dogs.
It is expected to be operational by November.
Bench Dedicated at Shelter for Rosenda Smiley
On Saturday, friends and family of Rosenda Smiley gathered
to dedicate a bench in her memory.
The 14-year old Rialto resident was fatally struck by a drunk
driver this May in Newport Beach.
Smiley loved animals and adopted several pets from the
shelter.
Farmers Market Marks One Year Anniversary
Next week marks the one-year anniversary
of the San Bernardino Downtown Farmers
Market.
The certified market takes place every
Tuesday from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm at the
Court Street Square, located at 349 North E.
Street.
Vendors sell fresh, locally sourced produce,
breads, flowers, crafts, as well as hot
prepared food.
As a certified Farmers market, the produce
sold will come straight from the farm and
sold by the farmer or their staff personally.
