Mayor Tran and City Council Members,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the recent proposal to increase the mayor's
salary and that of her office. This proposal comes at a time when San Bernardino is
grappling with an unprecedented homelessness crisis, deteriorating infrastructure, and a
struggling economy. Residents are living on the brink, often just one paycheck away from
losing their homes. In the face of these urgent challenges, it is incomprehensible that the
focus would shift toward elevating the salaries of those in power.
Since taking office, Mayor Tran has yet to present a concrete plan to tackle the pressing
issues our community faces daily. The only consistent focus appears to be on increasing
her compensation and providing lavish perks for her office, such as $1,000 for a luxury
desk. This behavior demonstrates a profound lack of respect for the residents who hope for
a better tomorrow in our city.
Taxpayers' hard-earned dollars should be utilized wisely to improve the quality of life for
everyone in our community. It is the responsibility of the city council to remind and hold the
mayor accountable, ensuring that her focus remains on the pressing issues affecting the
people of San Bernardino.
I urge the city council to stand firm against these self-serving proposals and to take a
proactive stance in addressing the needs of our community. Furthermore, I propose that the
council revisit the concept of dissolving the mayoral position in favor of a rotating mayor-
council system. Such a model would foster collaboration and ensure that leadership
remains connected to the community's needs.
Thank you for your attention to these critical issues. I implore you to take a stand for the
residents of San Bernardino and vote against any measures that would further enrich those
who are disconnected from the struggles we face.
Sincerely,
Victor Suarez
