The Wall Street Journal’s rankings of America’s
Top Colleges was released and CSUSB was
ranked #46 out of more than 500 national
colleges and universities!
Even more impressive, CSUSB ranked #3 in
enhancing the social mobility of its students,
which recognizes institutions that take in a high
proportion of students from lower-income
families, while maintaining high graduation rates,
high graduate salaries and minimizing the costs
of attending college.
The rankings also placed CSUSB #27 in student
experience; #34 in best value; and #107 in
highest graduate salaries.
City Finalizing Agreement for Additional
Animal Shelter Space
An agreement has been reached and a lease is being
finalized for a facility to provide additional shelter
space for animals under the care of the Animal
Services Department.
The agreement is expected to be brought before the
Council at its next meeting on Wednesday, October 2
with occupancy to commence shortly afterwards.
Last week, the community came together along
with developer Golden Management as they broke
ground on their new Crooked Creek housing
development on Eureka Avenue near Lytle Creek
Park.
The development will feature eight single family
homes and eight ADU’s that will be available for
rent when the construction
is complete in mid- 2026.
Former Norton Air Force Base Receives 2024
National Award from U.S. EPA for its Site Reuse
On September 5, the EPA recognized the San
Bernardino International Airport Authority and its
partners for its successful adaptive re-use and
environmental rehabilitation of the former Norton
Air Force Base.
A superfund site, as part of the transition to local
control, the former base oversaw
•6.9 billion gallons of groundwater treated –
removing 467 pounds of TCE
•20,900 tons of contaminated soil were removed
•22,600 pounds of petroleum hydrocarbons were
removed.

Now under local control, the airport now employs
over 13,000 people - more people than the base did.
In addition:
•The Airport has a $3.7 Billion economic impact
•The entire former base area currently accounts
for 2.2% of the jobs in the entire county.
•$1.4 billion in private investment
•5:1 ratio of private vs. public investment
•$930 million increase in annual tax base
•$26.6 million in fee revenue to the City (beyond
ordinary taxes)
•$9.7 million in fees to SBCUSD.
The 28th Annual San Manuel Pow Wow takes place
this weekend at Cal State San Bernardino. The
Pow Wow is both a celebration and competition
honoring enduring Native traditions.
The event will include the ceremonial grand
entrances, the singing of bird songs, gourd
dancing, drum groups, delicious food, fine
art, and artesian crafts from Tribal members
from across North America.
Admission is free. Activities run from
5:00 pm – midnight on Friday; 11:00 am –
midnight on Saturday, and 11:00 am
until 6:00 pm on Sunday.
Sign ups Open for Girls Soccer Clinic
Parks and Recreation have partnered with Angel City FC
of the National Women’s Soccer League and the non-profit
Football for her to hold four free soccer clinics in
October for girls aged 7-18 of all skill levels.
