Over 2,400 American Servicemen died that day. Almost half of the dead were crewmen from the USS Arizona. The other stations are Tamaqua Station in Pennsylvania, Point of Rocks Station in Maryland, Main Street Station in Richmond, VA, and Union Terminal in Cincinnati, OH. A release date has not been announced yet. City Receives Grant for Broadband Planning “Smart San Bernardino” will allow the City to develop a broadband needs assessment, community engagement, and a strategic plan to provide high speed broadband to the entire city. A large part of the City, including downtown, the airport, and northwest portion currently lack consistent broadband download and upload speeds. Miracle on Court StreetMiracle on Court Street There was Santa, skating, singing, snow, and tons of smiles at the Court Street Square on December 1st! A huge crowd kicked off the holiday season at the annual tree lighting ceremony. Activities at Court Street continue nightly through December 20. Check out the City’s website or social media for information on other events at the libraries, parks, senior centers, and for this week’s Ho Ho Parade. On Thanksgiving, staff and volunteers put together a feast for the dogs at the Animal Shelter. Each dog received a special helping of ground turkey, vegetables, rice and a pumpkin pupcake! Staff from Animal Services gathered the donations and prepared the food with the help of our wonderful volunteers. The dogs enjoyed the special treat! While our shelter dogs enjoyed the food, they would love to find a forever home for the Holidays. Dog adoptions are free right now and the shelter is full. The demolition removes an unsightly and dangerous building and clears the way for future economic development. Two Large Drug Busts by SBPD During two separate traffic stops last week, SBPD narcotics officers were able to seize 40 pounds of methamphetamine, 14,000 fentanyl pills, 2 additional kilograms of fentanyl, and 1.1 pounds of suspected cocaine. Two individuals were arrested on felony drug charges. Council NewsCouncil News Alexander Named to Key League of Cities Committee Council Member Alexander was appointed to serve a one-year term on the Housing, Community, and Economic Development Policy Committee. He was appointed by the African American Caucus president. He joins Council Member Calvin, who in October was named as a Presidential Appointment to the Community Service Policy Committee. Calvin and Alexander Complete SCAG Housing Training The 10-month Housing Policy Leadership Academy explores policy solutions to increase the supply and availability of affordable housing. Program focus includes methods to: produce housing for all, preserve vulnerable housing, promote equity and inclusion, protect tenants and small landlords, and prevent displacement.
