White House Initiative Latino Economic Summit
Set for November 17, 2022 at CSUSB
This event will bring together local, state and national leaders to discuss regional
solutions to issues such as housing, entrepreneurship, innovation, and education.
The event will include the unveiling
of the San Bernardino Investment
Playbook, a collaborative effort by the
Aspen Institute, CSUSB, and the City.
The Playbook, authored by Bruce Katz
and Jessica Lee, was funded by the
James Irvine Foundation, and is
intended to connect the region with
numerous types of economic
development opportunities.

Property on Medical Center Drive was previously filled with accumulated rubbish,
trash, and debris. Code Enforcement staff worked with the property owner to
completely clean up the site (at the owner’s expense).

Code Enforcement recently obtained an abatement warrant for a property on Sepulveda
Avenue to clean up accumulated rubbish, trash, and debris. Seven dumpsters and three
20x10 ft utility trailers were filled. Staff is working with Adult Protective Services to ensure
that mental health services are available to the current owner (who is a senior citizen).

This was a high-complaint area on Belle that included illegal dumping
and former encampment trash. Public Works used their new Avant mini loader
to expedite the cleanup.

Strong Response for Small Business and Non-Profit Grants
Strong Response for Small Business and Non-Profit Grants
Applications are still being accepted by the City for grants
between $10,000 and $35,000 to small business and non-
profit organizations. A total of $3 million is available to
qualifying organizations on a first come, first served basis.
To date, approximately 165 applications have been received.
Small business grant requests are nearing the program’s
funding capacity.
The deadline for non-profits to apply is November 21, 2022
and the deadline for small businesses is December 12, 2022.

Police Participate in Red Ribbon Week
On October 24, 2022, SBPD Officers attended Bing Wong Elementary School’s
Red Ribbon Week assembly. Red Ribbon Week is the largest drug abuse
prevention campaign in the U.S.

Animal Services Assists Unhoused PetsAnimal Services Assists Unhoused Pets
On October 27, 2022, Animal Control Officers participated
in joint outreach efforts with the Salvation Army, Dignity
Health, and Lutheran Mission at Perris Hill Park.
Officers vaccinated and microchipped twenty-five pets at
the event, helping to ensure these pets stay healthy and
can be returned if lost.
Thanks to grant funding from the San Manuel Band of Mission
Indians and the California Animal Welfare Funders Collaborative,
Animal Services will be offering free pet microchipping for
residents of San Bernardino and Loma Linda at the Animal
Shelter at 397 Chandler Place now through the end of the year.

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 3:30 pm, we will be cutting the ribbon on
the new Blair Park Fitness Center located at 1446 West Marshall Boulevard. The
fitness center was built in partnership with the National Fitness Campaign and
is adorned with San Bernardino themed art by local artist Darren Villegas.
