San Bernardino Parties at Festival
Over 4,500 residents had a great time at the inaugural Festival, held
on October 8 at Seccombe Lake Park. There were great
performances, food, art, vendors, rides, and animals. Kudos to Parks,
Public Works, and all the volunteers that made this a success!

Pepper Avenue Improvement Project Groundbreaking
The City partnered with Rialto to celebrate the kickoff of a joint project
to improve a two mile stretch of Pepper between Mill and Base Line that
will include road resurfacing, ADA ramps, and new sidewalks.

Grants Now Available to Small Businesses and Non-Profits
Grants Now Available to Small Businesses and Non-Profits
Applications are now being accepted by the
city for grants to small businesses and non-
profits for between $10,000 and $35,000.
A total of $3 million is available. Funding was
approved by the Council earlier this year and
will be awarded to qualifying businesses on a
first come, first served basis though
December.

Arrow Transit Rail Ribbon Cutting
On Friday, October 21, SBCTA will cut the ribbon on the long awaited, and
long tested rail service between San Bernardino and Redlands. The nine-mile
project connects Downtown San Bernardino to the University of Redlands
with three additional stops in between. Passenger service begins October 24.

Breeze Airways Expands Service at SBDBreeze Airways Expands Service at SBD
Breeze Airways announced today the addition of service to Las Vegas and
Hartford, Connecticut from San Bernardino International Airport starting in
February. The announcement comes just over three months since Breeze
launched its local service to San Francisco and Provo.

Calvin Re-appointed to California League
of Cities Policy Committee
Sixth Ward Council Member Kimberly Calvin has been
re-appointed to serve on the Community Service Policy
Commission as a Presidential Appointment.
The League of California Cities, which represents
California’s 476 cities, sponsors, drafts, and takes
positions on legislative and regulatory matters impacting
cities across state.
The Community Services Policy Committee specifically
focuses on childcare, parks and recreation, libraries,
natural disaster preparation, cultural arts, and community
and human services programs, including homelessness.

use permits for a new Habit Burger Grill on 2nd
Street near the 215 Freeway and a Rally’s on
Highland near Palm.
The Commission also approved a proposal for
In-N-Out on 5th Street to expand their parking lot
and increase the size of their drive through from
one lane to two and to accommodate up to 30
vehicles.

Mud/Debris Cleanup from Tropical Storm Kay
Public Works Crews have wrapped up clean up work from Tropical Storm Kay. Wards 2, 4,
5, and 7 were most impacted. Over 1,666 cubic yards off mud and debris were collected -
the equivalent of about 180 large dump truck loads.
In preparation for the rainy season and potential future heavy rain events, a city-wide re-
inspection of all storm drains and city-owned culverts will begin in two weeks with
additional work to clear any obstructed drains beginning shortly thereafter.

Multiple Enforcement Team officers continue to address gang and violent crime throughout the City.
During a recent investigation into an illegal casino, the officers recovered narcotics, a firearm, and a
large amount of gambling proceeds.

$300,000 in Grants for Literacy Programs
Baker’s Supports Kids Reading Program
The Library is partnering with the San Bernardino County Library by participating
in the annual Baker’s Book Club for youth, now underway through Nov. 19.
Children aged 4 to 17 years old can register for the program and receive a rewards
from Baker’s Drive Thru! For every level completed, they will receive a Baker’s
Book Club certificate and a free food coupon.
The Library received four grants to sustain and expand their
literacy programs. The $286,000 from the California Department of
Education and California State Library will fund standard literacy
programs, adult literacy programs, and family literacy, as well as
create a new English as a second language program.
