Bankruptcy Case ClosedBankruptcy Case Closed
On September 8th, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Scott C. Clarkson issued an
order discharging the City of San Bernardino’s bankruptcy case.
San Bernardino exits bankruptcy in a strong financial position. The City
has cash reserves exceeding $40 million and a projected budget
surplus of $2.5 million this fiscal year. The cash reserves represent
25% of the general fund budget, a threshold indicating solid financial
stability for a city government. The City’s bond rating has been raised
to investment grade (BBB+).
When San Bernardino entered bankruptcy in 2012, the City had a cash
deficit of $18.2 million and a projected $45.8 million budget deficit.

Crews Working to Remove Mud and Debris from Recent Storms
Crews Working to Remove Mud and Debris from Recent Storms
There were 72 locations, mostly in Wards 4, 5, and 6 that
had mud and debris impacts. Public Works prioritized their
response based upon the severity of the impact.
So far, crews have removed about 700 cubic yards of
debris – enough to fill over 70 large dump trucks.
Sweepers/scrubbers (see photos) are being used to remove
silt that remains after the loaders clear the debris.
The clean up is expected to last for an additional 3-4 weeks
during both normal shifts and after-hours. We do not
anticipate the need for street or lane closures.
