City Receives More Competitive Grant Funding
$3.8M for Violence Intervention Program (VIP)
On June 9, the Board of State and Community Corrections
approved an award of $3.8 million to expand and extend
San Bernardino’s Violence Intervention Program for another
three years. The previous grant was for $1.5 million.
The United States Department of Transportation along with the
Federal Railroad Administration awarded SBPD $120,000 for
Operation Safe Rails to educate and increase awareness of the
dangers of trespassing on railroad tracks while enforcing
violations.

As Code Compliance staffing continues
to ramp up, two new weekend
enforcement shifts launch this week:
Friday: 11 am – 9 pm
Saturday: 12 pm – 10 pm
Additional after-hours shifts are
anticipated to begin in mid-August:
Wednesday - Saturday: 12 pm – 10 pm

Starlight Movie Nights in the Park
Over 300 residents had a wonderful time
attending last Friday’s Movies in the Park at
Tom Minor Park.
This Friday, “Tom and Jerry” will be shown at
Anne Shirrells Park. Festivities start at 5:00 pm.
Movie begins at dusk.

130 participated in the Pitch, Hit, and Run on Saturday
organized by Parks and Recreation in partnership with
Little League District 43 and Major League Baseball.
This skills competition is new to San Bernardino, but the
great turnout means this may become an annual event.

connection construction contract.

Police conduct multi-agency crime sweep across the city
On June 9, 80 police officers and deputies from 9
SB county agencies participated in a multi-agency
crime suppression sweep in San Bernardino.
Officers made 32 felony arrests, 10 misdemeanor
arrests, confiscated 15 illegally possessed
firearms, seized 25 pounds of meth, recovered
2 stolen vehicles, and issued 10 gang cards.
SBPD would like to thank all of the agencies who
assisted in this operation.

“Safe and Sane” Fireworks are legal to be
purchased from a permitted vendor in San
Bernardino between July 1 – July 4 only.
Fireworks can be ignited on private property
only, no discharge on unpaved open areas,
public street or right-of-way, or in public
parks.
Our focus for the July 4th holiday season is to keep the
community of San Bernardino safe and free from injury and fire.
Our Police Department will have substantial enforcement of
illegal fireworks within the City.
Due to the risk of fire, all fireworks can only be ignited south of the 210 Freeway.
