San Bernardino Celebrates Juneteenth Parks Recreation and Community Services will be hosting Juneteenth events next week. Delmann Heights Community Center will be holding a community celebration on Thursday, June 16 at 4:00 pm. Rudy C. Hernandez Community Center will be holding a Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 17 at 4:00 pm. San Bernardino Awarded $600,000 Parks GrantSan Bernardino Awarded $600,000 Parks Grant California State Parks announced a $605,321 award to San Bernardino as part of their “Outdoors for All” program. This competitive grant had 384 applicants from around the state and only 125 awards were made. This funding will be used by Parks & Recreation for Conservation Education Workshops, Community Clean-ups, Camping Trips, Youth & Teen Weeklong Programs, Family Weekend Trips, Day Trips, Hiking, Beaches, Amusement Parks (Educational) Special thanks to Trina Moore, Part Time Recreation Specialist who wrote and submitted the grant with an awesome dedication and passion for this project! In addition, Aguilar also included two additional requests supported by the city – funding for CSUSB’s launch of a physician assistant program and funding for 3rd Street road improvements near the San Bernardino Airport. Funding for these projects are subject to their final inclusion when Congress passes a budget for the next fiscal year. Zero Tolerance Street Takeover Crackdown Continues Another street racing /takeover enforcement was conducted on May 22. During the operation,11 vehicles were impounded, 13 citations were issued, and 13 arrests were made for both felony and misdemeanor violations. Police Conduct Commercial Truck Inspection On May 24, SBPD Officers conducted a Commercial Truck Inspection Checkpoint on W. Foothill Boulevard. Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies (Riverside Sheriff, Chino, Rialto, CHP) assisted in the inspection program. In total, 81 inspections were performed, resulting in 17 citations and 1 impound. On May 24, SBPD Officers conducted a Commercial Truck Inspection Checkpoint on W. Foothill Boulevard. California Secretary of State Shirley Weber came to San Bernardino on May 15 for a visit of Black churches in the Inland Empire that included four in our city. Weber discussed the importance of voting in the June 7 election.
