Grant amounts to each organization ranged from $10,000 to $35,000. Approximately $425,000 of the $3 million allocated by the Mayor and Council remains to be awarded. Those funds will be used in a second round of grants will be targeted to smaller businesses in San Bernardino and will be made available early in 2024. City NewsCity News Groundbreaking for Del Rosa Fire Station On Tuesday, September 19, San Bernardino County Fire, along with the City of San Bernardino, County of San Bernardino, and San Manuel Band of Mission Indians held a groundbreaking ceremony to launch the construction of a new fire station on Del Rosa Avenue. Station 226 will be the first new fire station in San Bernardino in over two decades. Construction on the station is estimated to be completed in one year. The Center provides custom job training for the employees of local businesses and trade unions. At the event, SBCCD Chancellor Diana Rodriguez announced the District has received a $3 million grant to expand the center to provide additional training in high demand occupations. LibraryLibrary Library Grant to Improve Broadband Service The Library was awarded $19,709.06 from the California State Library through the California Library Connect Program to replace broadband hardware at Feldheym Library, which acts as the central hub for internet connectivity distribution to all four City Libraries. The new equipment will allow data speed upgrades of 1 gigabit per second, provide critical access for residents without internet service in their homes. Popular Saturday Book Sale Returns on October 14 and 21 The popular Saturday Book Sale is returning to Feldheym Library on October 14 and 21 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. Organized by the Friends of the San Bernardino Public Library, proceeds from the sale enable the Friends of SBPL to sponsor library programs including the successful Summer Reading Program. Books, magazines and reading materials of various types will be available for purchase in addition to DVDs, music and more. The sale will feature a $3 bag sale, where patrons can fill a bag with books for only $3. Over 20 different vendors will be on hand selling their fresh produce, as well as hot prepared food. The market will be a certified farmers market, meaning the produce sold will be locally sourced and sold by farmers from the region. Every Tuesday, downtown employees will be able to walk to the market to get something for lunch and residents will be able to stock up on healthy, locally grown food. Beginning Tuesday, October 17, the Parks and Recreation Department will be holding a weekly Farmers Market in Downtown from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Court Street Square.
