Countywide, the total number of homeless counted grew from 3,333 to 4,195 (an increase of 862 individuals or 26%) in the past year. Of that total, our number of unsheltered individuals rose from 992 to 1,017 (an increase of 25 or 3%) Our number of sheltered homeless rose from 358 to 485 (an increase of 127 or 35%). Federal Funds for Housing in San Bernardino Yesterday, Congressman Aguilar presented $4 million in Federal funds for two affordable housing projects in San Bernardino. Joined by Mayor Tran and Supervisor Baca, the Congressman presented $1 million for an infill project featuring manufactured homes and ADU’s on Ramona Avenue by NPHS and $3 million for the Housing Authority to fund a community resource center as part of the next phase of affordable housing at Arrowhead Grove, the site of the former Waterman Gardens. The donated art will be showcased at the International Horticulture Goyang, considered to be South Korea’s premier international flower exhibition. The art was donated by Steven Bielak and Adam Aguilar. The vases were made by Alcira Mendoza, including one created at the Garcia Center for the Arts and dedicated to the memory of Ernie Garcia. City NewsCity News Last week, the Southern California Association of Government announced that the City will be receiving their Sustainability Award for Alternative Fuels and Infrastructure for its Zero Emissions First – Clean Fleet Policy at SCAG’s Annual Conference to be held later this week. San Bernardino Wins SCAG Sustainability Award for Clean Fleet Policy Feldheym Library Makerspace Re-opens After a three-year absence, the Makerspace at Feldheym Library re-opened this week. The space will be open from 4:30 – 6:00 pm on the first Monday of every month and will feature CAD drawing, 3D printers, cricut machines, along with instructional literacy through hands-on activities such as crochet and scrapbooking.
