San Bernardino in Sacramento
Last week, Mayor Tran and Council Members Calvin and Alexander attended the League of
Cities Conference in Sacramento. While there, meetings were held with Majority Leader Gomez
Reyes, Senator Ochoa Bogh, and staff of Assembly Member Ramos to discuss legislation and
funding opportunities that would benefit San Bernardino. At the conference, session topics
included homelessness, retail crime, Project Home Key, short term rentals, illegal dumping, the
Surplus Land Act, inclusionary housing, and school safety.

Grants to Local Businesses and Non-Profits
The City allocated $3 million in ARPA funds to support
local businesses and non-profits in partnership with the
Small Business Development Center. Grantees were
required to take a class with the SBDC and meet with a
business counselor to craft a plan to sustain or grow
their business.
This week, the first round of grant recipients received
their funds in amounts ranging from $10,000 to $35,000.

Public Works Visits North Park Elementary
This morning, Public Works’ Urban Forestry Section, with the awesome help of Mrs. Williams’
Third Grade Class at North Park Elementary School, planted two trees on their school grounds.
Students learned about the value of trees and quickly helped by digging holes and properly
planting the trees.
The students named the trees Ratatouille and….Mark.

Carousel Mall Demolition Ceremony
The City will be holding a ceremony to commemorate the start of
the Carousel Mall’s demolition at 10:00 am on Monday, April 24.
This will mark a significant milestone in the redevelopment of the
43-acre property in Downtown San Bernardino.

Join the fun celebrating Earth and Arbor Day at Bobby Vega
Park on Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm. There will be free mulch,
free shade trees (with pre-registration), a resource fair, green
job fair, secure document shredding, free motor oil filters, and
a clean up of the park.
