The City celebrated a double grand opening on April
11 with the official ribbon cuttings of the new Del Taco
and Starbucks at the 5th Street Gateway near G Street.
A large crowd braved the unusually warm
temperatures to welcome these two new businesses to
the City of San Bernardino.

On Monday, the City of San Bernardino, Lutheran Social Services of Southern
California, and Dignity Moves broke ground on a 140-unit interim housing facility for
homeless individuals that will also provide additional social services.
The project is largely funded through a $35 million Homekey grant the City received
from the State and Federal Government. It is believed to be the largest competitive
grant the City has ever received. The facility is expected to be open in January, 2025.

HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra Visits San Bernardino
The U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra was
in San Bernardino on April 5 to visit SAC Health and meet with local
health care providers.
The discussion focused on the availability of health care in the
region, challenges preventing individuals from obtaining coverage,
and mental health services.
San Bernardino Receives $850,000 to help renovate the Nicholson
Park Community Center
Congressman Pete Aguilar joined community members,
San Bernardino elected officials, and City staff on April 8 to present
a symbolic check from the recently approved Federal Budget to
help fund the renovations to the community Center at Nicholson
Park. Improvements to the rest of the park will be starting soon.

Finance Wins the GFOA Triple Crown!
The City of San Bernardino Finance and Management
Services Department is one of the few cities in the
nation to be awarded the triple crown from the
Government Finance Officers’ Association of the
United States and Canada (GFOA)
To earn the triple crown designation, an agency must
receive all three of GFOA’s top awards in a year – the
Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting, the
Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award, and the
Distinguished Budget Presentation Award .
Annually, fewer than 400 public entities in the U.S.
and Canda receive this distinction.

USC Price School of Public Policy
Congratulations to USC Graduate Students Giselle Melendez-
Cruz, Adriana Morales, Melissa Morfin-Acevedo, Manny Muñoz
for taking the top prize at the 2024 Sunstone Economic
Development Challenge at USC’s Price School.
The students worked with the City Economic Development team
to analyze economic development and workforce opportunities
in the City and pathways to achieve their goals.
