•3,539 dogs and 1,019 cats adopted, returned to their families, or sent to rescue
organizations. (Dog intake up 21% and Cat intake up 50%. Dog save rate just
under 85%)
•Field Officers completed 9,858 activities in the City in 2023,
including responding to over 3,000 reports of stray
animals and 2,900 investigations.
•Approximately 600 pets sent to foster homes in 2023
instead of being held at the Shelter.
•40 new volunteers passed their background and initial
training.
•Launched a monthly pet food pantry at the Shelter to
support pet owners struggling to feed their pet.

Starting next week, residents and businesses will be asked to participate in a survey
about their current broadband service. There will be online and paper surveys in English
and Spanish.
Responses will be reflected in the City’s Broadband Master Plan, which will help identify
future broadband needs across the City and help guide investment decisions.

Homeless Point in Time Count Set for Jan. 25
The City’s annual Homeless Point in Time Count is set for
Thursday, January 25 from 5:15 until 10:30 am at the National
Orange Show. Volunteers can still sign up through the City’s
website, but must participate in a one-hour training in advance.
The Point in Time Count is conducted across the nation and is
used to determine funding allotments for housing programs and
services in local communities.
Villasenor Library to Re-open on January 22
After being closed for almost one year for repairs and remodeling, the
Paul Villasenor Branch Library is reopening to the public on Monday,
January 22.
Upgraded restrooms and a remodeled Community Room with a
capacity of 75 guests are among the improvements.

Merrill Named Public Works Director
Lynn Merrill, San Bernardino’s Interim Public Works Director has
been appointed to fill the permanent position, effective February 5.
Merrill brings with him over thirty years of public works and solid
waste experience in the public and private sector, including ten
years with the City of San Bernardino in the 1990’s and 2000’s.
Lanier’s Time at City Coming to an End
Due to Cal-Pers rules, Interim Community and Economic Director
Mary Lanier will be leaving the City in the coming weeks. During her
tenure, Mary has been an integral part of the City leadership team.
She will be missed.
On a related note, interviews are currently being conducted for the
new Community Development Director.
