OF SAN BERNARDINO. REQUESTING THAT THE "EMERGENCY EMPLOYMENT ACT .OF 1971" (PUBLI'C` LAW 92-54)1: BE EXTENDED FOR AN ADDITIONAL PERIOD OF ONE YEAR WHEREAS, due o the unavailability of funds under the: Emergency Employment Act of 1971, the City of San Bernardino will lay off approximateay 70.employees on May 31, 1973, and a similar number in each succeeding month until all employees funded under said act are phased out of the program; and WHEREAS, these employees are vitally needed by the City of San Bernardino to provide necessary services to the citizens of the community; and WHEREAS, there continues to be a high rate of unemployment existing in the Riverside -San Bernardino metropolitan area which severely limits the opportunities of other suitable employment for these employees, and WHEREAS, the termination of these employees will create a substantival hardship for them: and their families, NOW, THEREFORE., BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY.OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: SECTION .1. The President of the United States of America is hereby respectfully petitioned to immediately provide :funds for the.continuance of the Emergency Employment 'Act of 1971 (P..L.'' 92=..54)'.
