The draft was forwarded to the City Administrator and to the Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services for their input. On May 8, 1986, the Legislative Review Committee recommended this ordinance for approval with minor changes. The provisions of the ordinance are similar to the County of San Bernardino ordinance which created the San Bernardino County Senior Affairs Commission. 15-0264 c - - v ~) -, v 1 ORDINANCE NO. 2 ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING THE SAN BERNARDINO MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING CHAPTER 2.49, AND AMEtIDING 3 SECTION 2.17.010 TO CREATE THE SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION. 4 THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: 5 SECTION 1. Section 2.17.010 Subsection L is added to the 6 San Bernardino Municipal Code to read: 7 "L. Senior Affairs Commission." 8 SECTION 2. Chapter 2.49 is added to the San Bernardino 9 Municipal Code to read: 10 11 12 13 "Chapter 2.49 SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION 2.49.010 Members - Appointment. The Senior Affairs Commission of the City shall consist of 14 nine members who shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor and 15 Common Council. Members shall be appointed and serve pursuant to 16 the provisions of Chapter 2.17. 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 2.49.020 Duties. The Commission shall: A. Act as an independent advocate for older persons, taking positions on matters pertaining to federal, state and local policies, programs and procedures, and any legislation affecting older persons. B. Actively seek advice from community councils on aging, senior advocacy organizations, local aging commissions, elected officials, and the general public for the purpose of advocating for and making formal presentations on issues of concern to older persons. 1 - ---- - c -, v o -J ] C. Hold public meetings to gather input on issues of 2 concern to older persons with no less than thirty day 3 notification to the general public including the constituency of 4 senior citizens regarding dates, time and location. 5 D. Hold an annual area-wide meeting of senior advocates and 6 organizations to prepare for the priorities for the ensuing year. 7 E.
