Recommen<:led motion:
That Change Order No., One to. the cantract with Fisher's
Grading and Excavating far the impravement af Lassen
Street, in accardance with Plan No., 5888, be appraved;
to. autharize a change in the type af water pipe fram ABS
to. steel, place 390,21 tans af aggregate base, and furnish
and install a stap sign and a street name sign, at a net
increase in the cantract price af $5,640,17, fram
$72,354,65 to. $77,994,82,

STAFF REPORT
The plans and specifications were prepared to direct
the Contractor to install an asbestos cement pipe to allow the
City of Rialto to provide water service to this area, It was
discovered during construction that the City of Rialto required
the line from the main to the fire hydrants to be steel, The
additional cost to substitute steel pipe for asbestos cement
pipe is $862,50,
After excavation for the roadway had been co~pleted,
the soil in the sub grade appeared to have a poor resistance
value, A representative from the soils materials laboratory
on this project made a visual review and confirmed that the
subgrade material had a low resistance value, This representa-
tive recommended that aggregate base be constructed, due to the
large percentage of trucks that will be traversing the roadway,
A total of 390,21 tons of aggregate base was accordingly con-
tracted to insure the structural integrity of the pavement, The
Contractor has quoted a unit price of $11,50 per ton for this
extra work,
The plans did not direct the Contractor to furnish and
install a stop sign and street name signs, These items are
needed in order to have a completed street, The Contractor
quoted a price of $290,26 for furnishing and installing these
signs,
We have reviewed the prices quoted by the Contractor
and found them to be fair and reasonable,
The total estimated project cost, based upon the actual
low bid price, included an a~ount of $7,645,35 for contingencies,
which can be used to finance the cost of Change Order No, 1,
We recommend that this change order be approved,
