That the Mayor and Common Council declare January 20, 1986 as a

resolution to implement this action.

There will be a ceremony in which to pay our respects to Martin Luther
King at 2:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on Monday, January 16, 1984.

Limited time off will he provided by your supervisor and approved by your
Departimcnt Head from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for any employee who wishes to
attend this organized observance. The public is also invited. The City .
Hall will r.emain open as usual until 4:30 p.m.

a cost of $109,200 to declare
holiday.
Mary Jane perlick has estimated
Martin Luther King Day a City
I wish to correct some bad information I had previously given
you. The General Unit originally included Martin Luther King
Day among their bargaining proposals but later withdrew it.
No other bargaining units requested the holiday.
Please let me know if you wish any additional information.

RESOLUTION OF 'I'HE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO DECL.l\.RING JANUARY
2 20, 1986, TO BE A CITY HOLIDAY IN RECOGNITION OF THE
3 CONTRIBUTIONS OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
4 OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
5 SECTION l. The Mayor and Common Council of the City of San
6 Bernardino, recognizing the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther
7 King, Jr., to the city, state and nation, and recognizing that
8 the third Monday in January has been determined to be a national
9 holiday by the Congress of the United States and to be a state
]0 holiday by the Legislature of the State of California, does
]] hereby declare January 20, 1986, to be a city holiday for all
]2 purposes as specified in Chapter 2.52 of the San Bernardino
13 Municipal Code. The citizens of the City of San Bernardino are
14 hereby urged to participate fully in the activities in honor of
15 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on that day.
