approved, and Director of Public Works/City Engineer authorized
to advertise for bids.
03-18-85 Resolution No. 84-113 adopted awarding a contract to Riverside
Construction, Inc., for the low bid price of $293,000.00.
03-18-85 Resolution No. 85-113 adopted directing the Design Development
Team to meet with Riverside Construction Company and attempt to
identify cost savings that would reduce the contract below the
budgeted amount of $278,669.00.

" , Attached is a copy of the memorandum from Bill Doran, Construction
Manager. dated September 13. 1985, stating the reason for these changes.
The $2.037.56 charge for removing debris from the demolition of the
California Hotel should be paid by the property owner of the hotel site. We
have submitted a billing advice to the Finance Department in order that they
may submit a bill to the owner, Pan American Bank.
Mr. Bill Doran recommends this change order be approved.
We concur with the recommendation from the Construction Manager.

Change Order #3
Attached is subject change order. The reasons for and explanations of
each of the items comprising this order is as follows:

Description
This compensates the contractor for the cost of
removing debris-from the demolition of the California
Hotel that was interfering with work on the Library
site. A breakdown of the contractors cost is as
follows:

We are in receipt of daily extra work reports
for all labor & equipment and contractor has
submitted dump receipts.

This compensates the contractor for the cost of
providing engineering and surveying service in
the redesign of the east parking lot curb and
gutter layout. Redesign became necessary when
it was discovered that layout shown on contract
drawings would not fit existing site conditions.
The price of $1,840 was arrived at by negotiation
between Bill Post and Contractors Representative.

This compensates the contractor for the cost
of removing 300 SF of ~c _Jrom and resurfacing
the alley servi ng the ~uadi ng dock from "F"
Street. The unit price of $3.00 was negotiated
with the contractor.
~rticle 1~9 (A) of the general conditions states:
The Owner will bear the cost of all City permits.
The Owner shall obtain the General Building Permit.
The Contractor shall obtain_all other licenses
and permits necessary for his operations, Wi.th
the Owner bearing the cost of the City permit
fees. The Contractor shall obtain and pay for
all licenses required by city, county, or state
laws. .
When contractor submitted flagpole designs to the
city however. a permit fee of $85.51was assessed,
with -15% overhead applied to the amount above,
the total for this item is $98.41. This reimburses
the contractor for thi~ expense.
This returns to the City the value of approximately
80 LF of concrete curb, 480 SF of AIC paving and
the adjacent landscaping.this work could not be
completed due to the demolition of the California
Hotel and the presence of a still existing SCE vault.
This work will be performed by city forces @ a later
a~te.
We have reviewed the contractors itemized costs-in each case and have found
them to be acceptable. We recommend that this change order be approved.
